Punkadelics and Paired Ceramics, from Tuesday, the 27th March until Sunday, the15th of April.
Opening times, 10.00am -4pm, Tuesday to Sunday.
The exhibition is closed on Mondays but open ALL Bank Holidays including Easter.

A Joint Exhibition at Lytham Heritage Centre featuring new paintings, prints and drawings by Blackpool based artist, founder and director of Blott Artist Studios, Corrine Streetly and a new range of decorative ceramics and porcelain from Lytham based ceramicist Marie Kershaw, who uses coloured glazes of her own design.

The exhibition will also feature works which have been kindly loaned by KEQMS from their public collection and other private collectors to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Corrine's year as artist in residence at Queen Mary School, which culminated in the ‘Class of 97’ exhibition.
As well as another chance to see selected works from the original 1997 exhibition, there will be original paintings, drawings, limited edition prints, fine art cards, postcards and bespoke china mugs available for sale.

Supercollider is pleased to announce the next exhibition in partnership with FYCreatives*.

Laura Havenhand, whose exhibition Delicately Sanctimonious will be next in the Semiconductor** series of exhibitions and the first exhibition of 2012.

Havenhand's work signifies a stance against associations of physicality. Past work has included portraits of society's 'undesirables'; people who live on the fringes of the system, trapped in the periphery, existing in a social limbo. Through a system of art historical referencing these people were subjected to an elevated status through representation and scale.

In this new work Havenhand refocuses her aims, this time questioning the social actions undertaken to create and reinforce biological differentiation which leads to social deviation and a rigid social condition. Through reversing the established way by which women are rendered, Havenhand aims to challenge the societal ideology that maintains a patriarchal family and retains women in the subordinate role.

- Laura Havenhand is an artist based on the Fylde coast. She is currently a member of the Blott Artists' Collective, exhibiting on a national and international basis.

*Supercollider has developed a partnership with Blackpool’s creative industries centre FYCreatives to curate a programme of exhibitions and events in the gallery at FYCreatives’ Church Street site during 2012.

** Semiconductor is a Supercollider initiative developed to encourage and promote the work of artists based within the gallery's locale who are making a positive contribution to the development of artistic practice in the area. Exhibitions are programmed and inserted into the main Supercollider programme establishing a point of connection between the local and wider artist communities.

The figures in my paintings here are situated in a 'none-space' which emanates a sense of silence and stillness. The soft colours pulsate into and out of the white backgrounds, while some figures are missing heads and other parts of their body completely. These figurative paintings have underlying concerns regarding the delicate and fragile nature of the human body and mind.

Recently we have had some greatly needed help and support. As owner and director of blott studio & artists collective I must personally say a big thanks to a number of people. Thanks to John Hunter in the Futures Dept at UCLan who organized a valuable student internship programme for Blott last year which assisted me in achieving the initial production of the social history & documentation of the blott venture from it's inception to the present day. With an historians background, this was inevitable!
This document currently features within the archive section of the website and is an 11 year archived history of the group. We are hoping that this project will come to future fruition as a printed publication/book. Furthering this, Mr. Hunter recommendation to contact Danny Livingstone at Design Lab led ultimately to us acquiring a fantastic new website.
A special thanks to the Pro Vice - Chancellor of UCLan, Mr. Graham Baldwin, whose clear understanding of the predicament of the arts in the North West led to his backing our request for technological support. He gave the ‘go ahead’ to the fantastic team at Design Lab to design and produce a new website for blott studios.
My sincere and special thanks also to the team at Design Lab, based at the Media Factory, UCLan, where I studied for both my BA (Hons) & later my MA. Headed by Danny Livingstone, the great generosity, patience and help shown by the talented team at Design lab is still a wonder to myself and Janine Teare.

'Blott artist studios' is now 'Blott studio & artists collective'

As from November 2011, Blott artist studios has changed its name to Blott studio & artists collective to reflect more accurately the nature of the cultural venture. The design of blott logo has also been refreshed and re designed by our ‘in house’ Graphic Designer and blott founder member David Butterworth, pictured.

Although blott artist studios is already well established as a unique ‘artist led’ venture, it has of necessity changed over time. Today, blott studio & artist collective stands as a unique platform to showcase the work of its current members. Yet whatever our name, blott studio collective’s mission remains the same, to further enrich and encourage cultural growth in Blackpool by providing a town centre platform for local and regional talent. We believe that local galleries are vital in providing valuable exposure to the arts to the general public.

Blott has always played an active role in the community, primarily supporting and helping recent graduates and established artists alike to develop their careers. Our membership scheme allows members a level of spontaneity to expand their ideas without the pressures imposed by a commercially driven venture.

Janine Teare, the same student intern that the Futures Dept at UCLan supplied to us, proved to be completely invaluable. She is now Blott's current part -time Manager & Digital Designer.

With her first class BA (Hons) in Digital Design and personal qualities she is a core component of the managerial team. Without her assistance, extensive skills, support and dedication, the website couldn’t possibly have been produced. Blott has always been blessed with it's managers. First, the lovely Jane Mills & now the lovely Janine Teare!

Getting ready for Blottled Art Exhibition

We've been busy getting ready for our group exhibition the last few weeks. Today we put some of the finishing touches to the gallery. It's looking fantastic!

We had a great turn out for the opening night and would like to say a big thank you to local restaurant, Kwizeen, for kindly offering to cater the event. Echo, Reflect, Transmute.

Motive:

I wanted to make work that was important to me.

Paintings that I felt I needed to make.

This work is autobiographical.

Process:

The work is formed from family photographs, memory, dreams and specific local imagery.

Also research during the making to resolve and expand upon the content and process involved.

Materials:

I tried to choose my materials very carefully, to where possible convey meaning with each choice.

David Butterworth - InFocus Magazine

David Butterworth, one of out Blott artists lends his artistic skills to Over Wyre publication inFocus magazine. He volunteers his time and skills by producing illustrations for the front covers. The monthly magazine has been ‘running’ for 30 years and is produced entirely by volunteers - which also includes distribution.

If you haven't had chance to get down to Blackpool to see Corrine Streetly's series of "Punkadelics" paintings then here's a sneak peek of the paintings in situ.

The paintings are currently being shown in Blackpool Town Centre in the old "Bar Red" windows on Church Street (directly facing St. John's Church and next door to the Winter Gardens) where they will be displayed until August 25th.

From here, the paintings will be moved to Blott Studio where they will be shown in conjunction with work from Kent based artist, Gavin Edmonds. This joint exhibition will run from Monday 5th September to Saturday 24th September 2011.

Corrine Streetly: ‘Punkadelics’ series of paintings.

I first became aware of punk in 1976 / 77 as my ex-husband played bass for a well-known punk band of the time. I remember well the rebellious spirit, excitement, energy, youth and vibrancy of first wave punk, which I was lucky to experience first hand.

I was introduced to the Rebellion festival through my son, who has played drums in various punk bands locally in the past 5 years and regularly attends the festival. For the last three years I have been drawing and painting visitors to the festival and have had a stall at Rebellion to exhibit my work and sell postcards, paintings and drawings. The Rebellion festival is great fun and I have really enjoyed trying to replicate the energy, excitement, fashions and colours of the event onto canvas.

During this year's Festival I am staging a solo exhibition of my Rebellion paintings and drawings in the windows of Bar Red, next door to the entrance to the Winter Gardens. This is part of the Blackpool Council's culture shops initiative, which allows local artists and photographers to utilize empty shops to showcase their work and in turn brighten up the town centre.

I am also director of Blott Artist studios, based just around the corner from the festival, opposite the Blue Room pub and next to the Syndicate Club on South King street. Blott is a collective of local professional artists, established for over 10 years and we would be delighted to welcome any visitors to the Rebellion Festival, to show you our work and have a chat.

Blackpool Culture Shops, Phase Three.

Friday 8th July saw the opening of the ‘Culture Shops’ Phase 3 programme, which presented five new window installations on Cookson Street, Deansgate and in the former 'Bar Red' windows in St John's Square. The programme carries on into early autumn and features works by Boz Phillips, Tom Ireland, Shirley Sloman, Charlotte Lonican and Maggie McManus.

Friday 29th July – 25th August sees a special exhibition, again in 'the Bar Red' windows, by Corrine Streetly, an artist based in Blackpool and the director of blott artist studio collective, showing a solo exhibition of her new work, titled ‘PUNKADELICS’, co-insiding with 15 years of Blackpool’s unique hosting of the Rebellion Festival which is held from the 4th – 7th August. The festival boasts four days with 4 stages and is the ultimate social event in the punk calendar.

Previously she has worked in Financial Services and trained as a garden designer before moving to Lancashire in 2003. Susan’s work is influenced by the natural environment and its effect on the human psyche. Her work is often devoid of recognisable forms and brings into call the viewers interpretation, which relies on their own memory triggers to create a personal reaction to the pieces.

Born in Preston in 1961, Corrine Streetly graduated from the University of Central Lancashire with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art, 1995. Later completing a research MA at the same University, she focused her studies on the work of women artists past and present; their work and ‘place’ both historically and to date within the visual arts. In many ways the thematic development of her work has evolved from her interest in this subject. As a figurative painter, her work is rooted in the extended tradition of narrative. Previously a fractional lecturer in drawing and painting for 3 years and 1 year’s teaching Art History for Blackpool and the Fylde, she is currently a practicing artist and director of Blott Artist Studios.

Born in Blackpool in 1958, David Butterworth studied art at Blackpool and Fylde College. He soon became a well known local commercial artist, painting murals in clubs, pubs, theatres and leisure outlets before starting his successful graphics design business in 1984. His clients include: Leisure Parcs, First Leisure, Pleasure Beach Blackpool, Trinity Hospice in the Fylde, Guys Thatched Hamlet, Granada, BBC, LCC and many more. David has been the in –house graphics, logo and web site designer for Blott Artist Studios since the group was founded in 1999.

The images that David produces are often based around atheism, but also include landscapes and the human form.

Laura Havenhand

Laura Havenhand was born in 1986 in Blackpool, she attended Preston College where she received an ‘outstanding achievement award in fine art’ before going to Blackpool and the Fylde college and then to Leeds Metropolitan University where she completed a BA (Hons) in Fine Art in 2009. Since this Havenhand has been commissioned by restaurants and business’s around the Leeds area, and had her first solo exhibition at The Bowery Gallery, Leeds, in Jan 2010. She has shown in a number of group shows, and continues to make work. She recently became a member of Blott studios, Blackpool, upon returning to the area and has been working at Blott Artists Studios as curator since Novemeber 2010.

My practice exemplifies minorities who I believe to be systematically mistreated, through society’s systematic subjugation of particular groups. My work re-represents them and highlights the problems in society and the lives of the less fortunate. The portraits are made from a series of overlaid stencils. I use semiotics to provide the clues of the narrative and suggestive of the desired interpretation. I have worked along side the charity PAFRAS in Leeds and the fair-trade chocolate distributors Tradecraft. In 2005 I worked with Tradecraft to produce a sculpture made from chocolate and a series of paintings to widen awareness of third world poverty in one of Tradecrafts poverty awareness campaigns.

Artist Statement:
Jeannine Holloway was born in 1988 and has lived in Blackpool all of her life. Recently graduated from Blackpool and The Fylde College with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art and Professional Practice. Her work focuses mainly on the figurative and portraiture and is strongly influenced by beauty. Her appreciation for art, seen and created for its aesthetic values, leads her to paint her images with more emphasis on style and composition rather than concept or narrative. Jeannine has worked on a number of community projects in the local area, including the complete restoration of 'They Shoot Horses Don't They' (the world's biggest mirrorball) situated on South Promenade, Blackpool. She is currently a practicing artist, intent on furthering her skills and contacts within the creative industries.

I am very interested in 'the beautiful'. My art is strongly influenced by aesthetics and aesthetic values. I do not want to tell someone what they should be feeling when they look at my art. Just as I do not want to tell someone what they should see or how they should see it. I am interested to know what is 'seen by others' from what I create.
The figures in my paintings here are situated in a 'none-space' which emanates a sense of silence and stillness. The soft colours pulsate into and out of the white backgrounds, while some figures are missing heads and other parts of their body completely. These figurative paintings have underlying concerns regarding the delicate and fragile nature of the human body and mind.

Blott has played an active role in the community in a number of ways, primarily supporting and helping recent graduates and established artists alike to develop their careers through its membership scheme. It allows members a level of spontaneity to expand their ideas without the pressures imposed by a more commercially driven venture. With close links to Blackpool’s newly developed university, Lancaster University, and the University of Central Lancashire, Blott studios regularly provides placements and student internships for BA and MA students in the North West who are involved in the arts, making it possible for students to fulfil their course criteria.

Membership subscriptions and private sponsorship continue to help fund exhibitions, administration and running costs etc. Despite many necessary changes, Blott’s mission remains the same; to further enrich and encourage cultural growth in Blackpool.
